I am pleased to announce that the newest update for LambdaRogue: The Book of Stars has been released on May 2nd 2010: Patch 1.5.3 is available for download.

 

Besides the usual bug fixes and balancing adjustments, the patch includes the following new features:

• Switch between offensive and defensive tactics! In defense mode, you suffer only half of the normal damage, but you also inflict only half of the normal damage – decide wisely which tactics to choose!
• Explore new item combinations and throwing effects (potions, esp.)! Beware of earthquakes!
• Enjoy the visually improved field of view (FoV) and new character graphics that fit your chosen profession and your sex – no more female enchanters that look like male soldiers ;-)
• Face NPCs and gods directly, with the newly introduced character portraits!
• Use your mouse to get tooltips and to select icons from the quickbar!

You need a working LambdaRogue 1.5.x installation in order to install this patch. Thus, if you don't own LambdaRogue already, first download and install (or extract) the LambdaRogue 1.5 release.

To update your game, download the correct patch archive for your system (sorry, no Linux version of this patch, wait for 1.5.4):

• Patch 1.5.3 for Windows (24.4 MB)
• Important Hotfix: quests.txt (Copy in your data folder after installing the patch)

After download, simply extract all files in the archive's patch folder ("LambdaRogue-1.5.3-patch-win32" on Windows; "LambdaRogue-1.5.3-patch-i386" on Linux) into your LambdaRogue directory. When asked, overwrite all existing files with the files provided with this patch. Don't forget to download the fixed quests.txt afterwards, otherwise 3 quests won't give rewards.

 

You can continue existing save games from previous releases (1.5, 1.5.1, 1.5.1a and 1.5.2) with release 1.5.3.

However, the saves get converted, to include additional information about game features added in 1.5.3 and not present in earlier releases. Thus, games saved with 1.5.3 can't be loaded in earlier releases.
